Charging for art?

This is an interesting subject for every artist. I'm still up in the air with charging. When I first started airbrushing it was hit and miss with my art. Some where good and some where not. But charging people for art is hard. No matter how it looks, the artist still put hours and hours into it. So as an artist, if you look at it, and go wow this could have been so much better. Do you lower your price on the piece, because it's not perfect or do you price for the time you put in it. Me personally, will lower the price if it's not up to my standard. But I've also have learned more and gotten better. So now if I price my art higher, people kind of look at you funny, because your asking more for your art. I just tell them, I'm getting better, your upgrading.
I see a bunch of post for shopping local and small businesses. Apparently that doesn't include artist or airbrushers. So far, I've gotten 1 Christmas gift order. Hope it picks up before the beginning of December, art takes time.
